I am somewhat of a contradiction. When it comes to my Christian beliefs, I am both orthodox and cynical. What I mean is that I hold tightly to the traditional orthodoxy of Protestantism; after all, who would best understand the original intent of biblical authors than those closest to them? At the same time, I question the assumptions, motives, and interpretations of those who make statements about what the Bible teaches. When faced with a biblical quandary, I want to discover for myself what I feel the scriptures teach.

This blog grew out of conversations with a pastor friend while I was pursuing a Master of Divinity. I’d share my research and writing with him, and he’d challenge me to see things from angles I hadn’t considered. Though we shared a love for orthodoxy, we often found ourselves discussing the gray areas—like three-point, five-point, or no-point Calvinism—and learning from each other in the process.

I hope what you find here sparks something in you—a question, a thought, a desire to dig deeper. And I welcome your responses. Push back, ask questions, offer insight. If I’m questioning assumptions, motives, and interpretations, I’d be honored if you did the same with mine in a thoughtful way.
